Tarpon Springs Campus Events

Tuesday, February 12th.  12:30pm-2:30pm.  LY 156.   Movie showing "The Hate U Give."    Limited to SPC Students, Staff, and Faculty. Sponsored by Tarpon Campus SGA.

Wednesday, February 27th. 12:30pm-1:45pm.  Location FA Lobby (outside of library).  Ethical discussion about themes in The Hate U Give.  Hosted by Dr. Odutola and the Ethics department.

Friday, March 1st- April 26th. Art Contest."Depicting Emotions in The Hate U Give."  Students can turn in artwork/contest form to either the Tarpon Springs campus library or the Clearwater campus library.  Artwork submissions will be displayed at the Tarpon and Clearwater campuses the week of April 29th- May 3rd as part of the Arts, Humanities, and Design community week.

Clearwater Campus Events

Wednesday, April 3rd, 6:00pm.  Clearwater Library Community Room LI 109. Movie showing "The Hate U Give."   Limited to SPC Students, Staff, and Faculty. Sponsored by Clearwater campus SGA.

Friday, March 1st- April 26th. Wednesday, April 17th. 6:00pm. Location: Clearwater Library Community Room LI 109.  Open Mic.  Students and faculty are invited to perform original or memorable works based on themes of the book.

Midtown Campus Events

February 1st - 15th. Collage contest in the MT Library.

Create a collage using the themes of community, race, injustice, identity, family, loyalty, belonging, or the power of language. Participate and receive a FREE copy of The Hate U Give (while supplies last). 

Voting will take place in the MT Library February 18th - 21st. The winner will be announced at the Midtown Black History Month Celebration, 12:30 - 1:30 pm, February 21 in MTJC 141 and will receive a gift card. 

Seminole Campus Events

Monday, February 18th.  5:30pm-7:30pm. Seminole Campus Digitorium.  Movie showing "The Hate U Give."    Limited to SPC Students, Staff, and Faculty.  Sponsored by Seminole campus Student Life department.

Weekly:  Online Student Book Club.

An online student book club has been started via Goodreads. This book club will meet online and is open for students to discuss themes of the book.  Students who participate weekly will receive a free copy of the book (while supplies last).

Tuesday, February 12th. 6:30pm-7:30pm. Online Workshop:  The Hate U Give.

This workshop would focus on "The Hate U Give" and the changes that it's helping to spark in regards to teens and young adults becoming involved in their communities and speaking out for causes that they believe in.  I also hope to highlight read-a-likes and other authors of color that might appeal to readers.
