Movie Viewed Online (Streaming Service or YouTube)

Title of Film or Video. Director, Film Studio or Distributor, Release Year. Name of Database or Streaming Platform, URL. Access Date [optional, but recommended]

Movie or Television Viewed on Physical DVD

Title of Movie. Contributor(s). Publisher/Production Company, Year of Release. 

 Note: Typically films, television episodes, and other performances have many contributors. After the title, list the contributors most relevant to your project. Most common contributors listed include directors, creators, and performers.

Television Episode Viewed Online

"Title of Episode." Name of Show, season number, episode number, Film Studio or Distributor, Release date. Name of Database or Streaming Platform, URL. Access Date [optional, but recommended]

Songs and Recordings

Song from an Album

Artist. "Title of Song." Title of Album [if available], Record Label, Release year. Streaming Service, URL.

  • If relevant, you can include information about performers and composers after the album title. 
  • If relevant, you can include the format (MP3, WAV file, etc.) at the end of the citation.

Example:

AJR. “Three-thirty.” The Click, AJR Productions, 2017. Studio album.

Streaming Movie from a Library Database

MLA recommends including URLs. Please note that some library database URLs are very lengthy and may not be persistent links.

"Title of Video." Publisher/Production Company, Date. Title of Library Database. URL is recommended by MLA.
