From SPC's Blue and White Newsletter:

"This year’s One Book, One College selection is “I Am Malala: The girl who stood up for education and was shot by the Taliban,” by Malala Yousafzai.

The book was nominated by Alex Haydon, a Clearwater Campus student and member of the One Book, One College Committee. This memoir by the youngest-ever recipient of a Nobel Peace Prize recounts the remarkable story of a 14-year-old girl who was shot in the head because she refused to be silenced and fought for her right to an education. In 2013, Yousafzai was named one of the world’s 100 most influential people. She continues today her activism for access and equality in education for girls and women.

“I Am Malala is the remarkable tale of a family uprooted by global terrorism, of the fight for girls’ education, of a father who, himself a school owner, championed and encouraged his daughter to write and attend school, and of brave parents who have a fierce love for their daughter in a society that prizes sons,” according to the Amazon review.

The entire college community is encouraged to read the book and share in the conversation. Staff and faculty members are also encouraged to consider how the book can be used for campus events, and in the classroom. Suggestions for how to incorporate the book into curriculum will soon be provided."
