When writing a research paper, you must always give credit where it is due.
If directly quoting, paraphrasing, or summarzing an author, then you need to cite where you found the material or else run the risk of engaging in plagiarism, which is a form of stealing and has serious consequences at academic institutions.
Below are some helpful sites on implementing APA & MLA formatting and documentation into your papers that will prevent you from plagiarizing research material. Please ask your instructor or follow the guidelines in the assignment concerning which citation style he or she prefers.
