Lunch and Learn:  Apartheid- PBS News Hour (15 minutes)

We know students are short on time.  Take a study break and enjoy lunch on us while learning about this important subject.  We will be showing this 15 minute documentary and will have pizza and water available for attendees.  All students, staff, and faculty are invited!  Books will be given out as prizes.

PBS News Hour correspondent Charlayne Hunter-Gault covers South Africa's historic transition to democracy in 1994. She revisits an Afrikaner farmer (Janni La Roux) she first met in 1985 in the Western Cape Town of Paarl. He talks about his hopes and fears about the post-Apartheid regime and the black government that is expected to be elected. Original broadcast date: April 26, 1994.

Workshop:  South African Apartheid Resources in the SPC Library (15 minutes)

This 15 minute workshop will introduce you to journals and articles available through the SPC Online Library on the subject of South African apartheid.  This on-campus workshop is beneficial for faculty who wish to incorporate materials into their classes, or students who have interest in the subject.

Born a Crime Tarpon Campus Open Mic Event (1 hr, 30 min)

Students, staff and faculty are welcome to perform in any modality (comedy, poetry, skit, musical).  Themes can be based off of our SPC Reads book Born a Crime or performers can elect to read anything of their choosing.

Light refreshments will be served and copies of the book will be given out as prizes throughout the event.
