Master Learners at SPC-Clearwater: Home

Master Learners at SPC-Clearwater is a welcoming forum of like-minded, active adults in the post-employment phase of their lives who come together to present and attend lectures, quality films, musical events, and enjoy the camaraderie of each other. Events are free and will be held at the SPC Clearwater Library in the Community Room (LI 109). Doors open at 12:30 and events will begin at 1:00 p.m. We have an immediate get together planned that you won't want to miss!

Master Learners collects non-perishable items for the SPC Food Pantry for food challenged students.
Your non-expired non-perishable items will be very appreciated at each program.

October 11th: Kick Off Event
Join us in the SPC Clearwater Library Community Room for our Welcome/Kick-off. Here you will disocver what the Master Learners at SPC-Clearwater is all about, get to know one another, and learn about future events. You are encouraged to bring friends! 
Doors open at 12:30 and the event starts at 1:00 p.m. Refreshments will be served. 

October 25th
William Boden will present the award-winning film, At Eternity’s Gate, starring Willem Dafoe and Rupert Friend, and directed by Julian Schnabel. A chronicle of Vincent van Gogh’s time in France when he resided in Aires and Auvers-sur-Oise.

November 8th

Margaret Golay presents, Walt Whitman, The Deeply Emotional Poet Becomes Civil War Caregiver. Margaret will explore the transformation of Walt Whitman as he brings the reader to the fields and hospital beds of the Civil War where the wounded lay near death. His distaste for war turns to a deep compassion for the soldiers he cared for. Whitman’s “The Wound Dresser” and “Vigil Strange” bring to the reader detailed factual and graphic observations of the gravely wounded soldiers. His emotional writings of the time contributed to important changes in wound care. His observations also served to tell the reader the true cost of war in human suffering. 
November 22nd

Gertrude Bell: Learn about this fascinating woman, a British writer, archaeologist, adventurer, and political officer best known for helping to establish modern Iraq after World War I. Presented by Joseph Menasce. Discussion will follow.

December 6th

Beethoven’s 250th Birthday Celebration with screening and discussion of "Immortal Beloved,” the life and death of the legendary Ludwig van Beethoven starring Gary Oldman. We will also have a live musical performance, birthday cake, and more!
