Ed App Wednesday

Every other Wednesday the Tarpon Springs Campus Library and Learning Resources will highlight a free app and website available online or through an app store. These apps and websites will be available for students, faculty, and staff to use for educational or recreational purposes. You will be able to download the apps or access the websites on tablets, computers, and Smartphones.

All highlighted apps and websites will appear on this guide. See below for each week's highlighted educational app and website.

Educational Apps

3/5-3/18 app: TED Talks
TED's official app presents talks from some of the world's most fascinating people: education radicals, tech geniuses, medical mavericks, business gurus, and music legends. Some of the TED talks can also be accessed through the SPC Films on Demand database.
3/19-4/1 app: Animoto
With this app you can create videos from your photos; adding text and music to enhance. This can enhance any in-class presentation.
3/19-4/1 app: Vimeo
This app is useful to create short videos for recreational or educational needs. It could be used for a visual aid in a class presentation.
4/2-4/15 app: IDEAL Web math
Discovery Education's® WebMATH app is a math-help app that generates answers to specific math questions and problems, as entered by users. Math answers are generated and displayed in real-time. In addition to the answers, Discovery Education's® WebMATH app shows users how to arrive at the answers to the math problem(s) they enter.
4/2-4/15 app: Pocket
This app allows the user to save a website, video, or anything else they want to view later in one secure location. It also syncs all of your devices to acess this content; also allowing access without internet connection.
4/16-4/29 app: Duolingo
It teaches you, tests you, and even sometimes fails you, all so you can ace that language class. Use the app to compete with friends or translate a text message in another language.
4/16-4/29 app: Google Drive
If you’re a college student in 2013, you’re going to have more Google Docs than you know what to do with. This is what you do: Get this app on your phone so you can access them from anywhere.
4/30-5/13 app: Studios
This app lets you set your class schedules and homework deadlines and store notes and photos with ease. When you add your class schedule, it automatically silences your phone during the corresponding class times.
4/30-5/13 app: Studyblue
The app that’ll help you ace your next multiple-choice test. You can create digital flashcards and upload study materials to review on the computer or your smartphone. This app can even filter out the flashcards you know by heart to ensure you learn the hard ones as well. Import your notes from Evernote (in the Productivity section) for a stronger study session.
5/14-5/27 app: Evernote
The app that saves everything you need—literally. You can type a note, take a photo, record audio or attach a file in this app that syncs to all your connected devices. The more you use it, the more uses you’ll find for it. (For starters, it’s great for group projects and term paper research).
5/14-5/27 app: Lose It
The app you need to help keep the Freshman 15 at bay. You can easily track your meals and calories burned with this app. Even the calorie total for that bag of chips you devoured last night is in here: Just scan the barcode or search for the item and it’s automatically added to your daily food log. And that hour of pool you played last night? It counts as exercise! Just select “billiards” and you’ve already burned 107 calories.

From the makers of TED talks, this wide array of resources offers talks and content on educational topics. This site also offers content to go along with videos such as handouts and quizzes.
3/19-4/1 website: Audacity
Want to record and edit audio? Then this is the website for you! Audacity allows users to edit and record their own audio to enhance any audio in a presentation.
3/19-4/1 website: Pixenate
This website allows users to modify in edit photos with a variety of tools to create a better, enhanced photo.
4/2-4/15 website: Khan Academy
This website has a variety of videos and other resources that help students in math, science, among other subjects.
4/2-4/15 website: WebMATH
Hosted by Discovery Education, Webmath offers help with a variety of math problems and topics. If you are stumped this is a great site to get help or come see our math tutors in the SPC library!
4/16-4/29 website: Italki
Do you want to become fluent in a language? This website allows you to engage with other individuals in an online language learning community exchange.
4/16-4/29 website: Quizlet
This site allows the user to create quizes and flashcards to help in the study process. Good for core memorization for courses such as Anatomy & Physiology.
4/30-5/13 website: Coursera
This website offers access to a variety of the world’s best free courses online. Put on by a variety of top-notch universities around the country, this offers content to users to learn at their own pace.
4/30-5/13 website: Open Culture
A large collection of over 400 free courses output by Ivy League Unviersities spanning subjects in math and science. Cultural and educational media content available on the website.
5/14-5/27 website:Blubbr
The website allows you to create interactive quizzes through audio clips and questions. This can be used for fun or to liven up a presentation.

College has a way of making your money disappear. Use this budgeting app to track where it’s disappearing to.
