The Road to Character

The One Book One College title selected for 2016-17 is The Road to Character by columnist and social analyst, David Brooks.  In a world focused on external successes, this book encourages individuals to look within themselves at their own virtues. This book highlights famous leaders from President Dwight D. Eisenhower to Civil Rights leader A. Philip Randolph and illustrates how each developed a strong sense of character. Students studying all disciplines can benefit from this book, and it is especially helpful for those studying Psychology, Business, Government/Politics, Ethics, and World Religions.

The main goal of the One Book, One College program is to unite the college and local community under the enriching umbrella of literature. It seeks to spark in the college an appreciation for reading, and provides a safe and constructive environment to springboard conversation and activities based around a unifying book.

SPC Learning Resources Department is currently planning programming and events based upon themes of this book for Fall and Spring semesters. Check back frequently to our guide for the latest information.

The author spoke to students, faculty and the community Wednesday, Sept. 21, from 7-9 p.m. at the Palladium Theater. Hosted by the SPC Foundation, Mr. Brooks spoke as part of the Second Annual Distinguished Speaker Event series.
