How Do I Narrow Results to Journal Articles in SPC Databases?
- Many article database search screens give you the ability to narrow results to scholarly publications. The key is to find that check box among the limit results options on the page (see graphic below for examples).
In a sample search in EBSCO's Academic Search Complete article database we use the keywords teens and alcohol, using the limit results to full-text.
- This first search yields about 450 articles including from USA Today, Atlantic Monthly, and Current Health. Although these publications are considered relevant sources, they do not meet the peer-reviewed test.
- When we check the box "limit to: "Scholarly (Peer Reviewed) Journals," the results narrow to about 150 articles including from The Brown University Digest of Addiction Theory & Application, the Journal of Community Health, and Substance Abuse.
